Pira is a leading commercial consultancy, testing and media business which specialises in retail supply chain technologies related to industries such as packaging, paper, plastics, printing, publishing and consumer goods. Pira has established a reputation as one of the key knowledge providers in these industry sectors.

In March 2004, Pira International was acquired by Swiss-owned Ciba Specialty Chemicals. This development enables Pira to expand its global presence as part of a multinational services business whilst retaining its well-respected independence and neutrality.

Expert Services is a recently formed business unit within Ciba Specialty Chemicals (http://www.cibasc.com/) which operates independently from the company's product business. The unit offers knowledge-based services to customers across many industrial sectors. These services include regulatory, environmental, safety and testing support as well as educational activities such as conferences and publications.

Established more than 75 years ago to carry out technical research for government departments and leading industry participants, Pira is well known for its authoritative technical expertise. Less well known is its growing involvement in strategic and market consultancy. Around 140 full time staff are employed at the company's headquarters in Leatherhead in Surrey.

Pira works with companies throughout their related supply chains from raw material and equipment manufacturers through to retailers and publishers. The needs of facilitators such as logistics providers and financial institutions are also catered for.
